1963 VW beetle (second hand from a dealer). 1970-75, but it got to Bundaberg.
1962 Holden EK wagon (cascaded from my father). 1975-83. It got to far north Qld and Eyre Peninsula, towed lots of loads, and was a regular snow vehicle. I took it around from 99 999.9 to 00 000.0. I retired it in 1983.
1968 Holden HK wagon (cascaded from a colleague). 1983-~1994. It matched the EK for duties, and got to FNQ (and inland). When rust became a problem I traded it in.
~1989 Holden Commodore VK wagon. ~1994-2004. My first automatic, and with many more creature comforts than the older. It didn't tow anything, but was a regular snow vehicle, with better chains than the others.
2004 Suzuki Liberty Outback, 6 cylinder, wagon. My only new car, and bought to meet specific requirements: sleep aboard, fit my drive and supermarket carparks, get to the snow (and over muddy tracks chasing trains and paddlesteamers) and tow a boat which I was yet to purchase. It was rated for 1800 kg towing, and my river-cruising boat is 1600 kg all up on the trailer. I'm still driving this one.
Roderick

71xxxx Mormontown Track (near Walhalla). HUC117. (Roderick Smith). This track was signed '4wd only'. Someone had added 'and VWs'. This was as far as I dared go, and I didn't trust the handbrake to hold, so parked at an angle for the photo. Alas, the camera made the track look horizontal.

830314 Melba Hwy at Mt Slide Jn HND978 on its last run, a ceremonial drive over two of its most common routes: to Mt Buller, and home from a model railway in Seymour. (Roderick Smith).
I styled the day like my special train tours, with photostops in scenic locations. Here it is cresting the Great Divide summit.
This had been a great family car, taking a family of four boys caravanning, with by brother's dinghy on the roof.
For this farewell, I had my father as a passenger. He talked about this adventure until his death, only a year later.

850310Sa Tarli Karng (Vic.) KEC257 supporting a bushwalking expedition. (Roderick Smith)

030630M Speewa punt (Murray River, downstream from Swan Hill). BNQ789. (Roderick Smith). Scanned for a Where is it?, but this thread has overtaken that.

130219Tu Tailem Bend (SA): SZU011 hauling my boat to a rally. (Roderick Smith). Since then, I have had the trailer converted to tandem.
