Sometimes Sayings.

I have my shoulder to the wheel,
my nose to the grindstone,
I've put my best foot forward,
I've put my back into it,
I'm gritting my teeth,
Now I find I can't do any work in this position!

Here's another true one but you probably won't believe it:-
Some time ago I was driving on the monash freeway and saw a man pulling a 6x4 trailer down an onramp (or slip-road, which ever you call it) onto the opposite carriageway.
So what? I hear you ask, that is not unusual, old Morris has had a brain fart or something.
I will say it again: A man was pulling a trailer onto the freeway.
No mention of a tow vehicle. He was WALKING down the ramp pulling the trailer. (as the ramp was downhill the trailer was probably pushing him)
He obviously got to where he was going because I have used the freeway since and there is no sign of the trailer.

I have read with concern of the apparently increasing numbers of serious accidents involving a motor vehicle and a roadside tree. After much thought, I have decided that the trees do not like vehicles and jump out in front of them.
My solution is that if a tree jumps out in front of you, often when you are speeding or have been drinking, do not die, as that only encourages them.

AND that reminds me, I once read in a Mad Magazine (many many years ago) that although Americans get excited about Arbor Day the real reason for trees is obvious . . .
As are walls, lamp posts, telegraph poles, bushes, clumps of grass, rocks, and supposedly interesting items thoughtfully discarded for your dog to spend at least five minutes sniffing and deciding which way they should be facing, etc, etc, . . . It never fails to amaze me how my dog can store so much pee and still cock his leg whenever and wherever!

Diabetes?
Which brings to mind the old ditty, "The Legend of Piddling Pete"
A Drovers dog once came to town,
His Christian name was Pete,
His pedigree was two yards long,
His looks were hard to beat,
And as he trotted down the road,
'Twas beautiful to see,
His work on every corner,
His work on every tree.
He watered every gateway,
And never missed a post,
For piddling was his masterpiece,
And piddling was his boast.
The city dogs stood looking on,
In deep and jealous rage,
To see this simple country dog,
The piddler of the age.
I have forgotten the next verse or two, something about an organised contest, but the last cupla lines go something like:-
The city dogs, said 'So long Friend,
Your piddling did defeat us!'
But no-one ever put them wise,
That Pete had diabetes.
