Why do the greenies hate coal and steam so much?....Simple ,coal and steam is something anyone can do ,and greenies hate that because multinationals have no controll over it.....I can make a steam car and power it with wood from my back yard....plenty of hate for that, because there is no central governments controll over it....Every pressure group ,greenies ,socialists ,anarchist, feminists, gays ,have funding from multinational businesses to push an agenda ....and provide profit for their sponsors. Why do you think its impossible to anything for your self anymore.?...

My take is that every city high rise should have a wind turbine on top of it ,so city dwellers can share some of the misery these monstrosities cause to anyone who lives in a ten mile radius ......Interesting to note that the Bob Brown ,ultra greenie,is protesting and litigating against a wind turbine in sight of his home....

Yes, as mentioned above, roadhouses can decide what they sell. Some three years ago I drove in a dual fuel Petrol/LPG three and a half ton truck from Victoria to Bundaberg and back. (on different routes) There were no outback roadhouses there, just "service" stations.

It was almost impossible to find gas in country towns in New South Wales. A service station operator told us no one was stocking it any more because virtually all taxi's in NSW were now hybrid petrol/electric and could not be fitted with an LPG tank. The only ones selling gas were those emptying their gas tanks.

In Queensland, we found virtually no service stations advertised LPG. A tradie customer we spoke to said there was no profit in gas any more but advised us to look for a place with a gas tank, drive in and ask if they had any gas left. Most did. It reduced our fuel bill considerably.

I have not been interstate since then so do not know what the situation is now.

I have my shoulder to the wheel,
my nose to the grindstone,
I've put my best foot forward,
I've put my back into it,
I'm gritting my teeth,

Now I find I can't do any work in this position!

This thread has really caught on. It is quite amusing in many areas with people firmly making claims on out of context facts, one-off experiences with no general corroboration and many examples of experimental work being presented as fully operational, tested and main-stream ready.

Absolutely loved Allan's "official" charts showing electricity usage and sources from South Australia followed instantly by Invested Energy's "official" charts showing almost the opposite.

Bear with me here: About 20 years ago CASA was opening a low level light aircraft lane down the coast past Sydney which allowed the lighties to fly up to 1,000 feet under the Sydney runway departure while remaining over water east of the coast. The airline pilots union saw this as as an infringement on their airspace - why? nobody seems to know.

In a letter a senior Captain wrote that the reason it should not be there is because wake turbulence from departing airliners could go as low as 812 feet as it passed over the lane thereby flipping a light aircraft over. He justified this by stating that in the most common training manual it said wake turbulence could go to 1,000 feet below an air liner.

He then sat down with all his manuals, charts and a calculator and worked out that a 747 at maximum load, on the hottest day on record, with the maximum tailwind and losing two engines on takeoff would endanger a light aircraft to not 800 but 812 feet! I said in another thread that you can teach a monkey to fly. He started his whole minute mathematical exercise based on a general non-specific statement in a general manual not related to any particular aircraft type. (The light aircraft lane has passed thousands of aircraft under Sydney departures in 20 years and amazingly not one aircraft has been flipped over by airliner wake turbulence.)

The point of the story is almost every conclusion (or sales pitch) in this thread has somewhere in its calculation an assumption and most detailed figures on watts, amps, range, charge times, power source are deeply flawed and at best only applicable to particular equipment at a specific time and place. This failure applies equally to pro and con arguments. It helps give authority to an argument but few detailed claims can stand close analysis particularly if the author is trying to intimate the results are indicative of a general conclusion and not just case specific.

Keep it up fellers it is good info and even the most outrageous "facts" will have a few gems. These gems will slowly gather in the next few years to form a result somewhere between the horse carriage people and those who believe Star Wars is a documentary. Whatever, we will still be going forward.

Dare I say it, the future with electric cars will be like global warming

We will only know in years to come if any of our predictions are right

Some people get offended by this sort of talk but the truth is none of us know whats gunna happen five minutes from now

Still waiting on my Jetsons car

Exactly what I am saying. Your info is undoubtedly accurate for that 5 minute period. As soon as Married at First Sight comes on in Sydney every TV will suddenly suck the power lines dry. As soon as a cold front with no wind covers most of NSW in cloud and South Australia enjoys full sunshine and 50 knot winds the situation will change dramatically.

Anyone regardless of whether they are glue-yourself-to-the-street fanatics or the biggest shareholder in the Hunter Valley coal mines could troll through those 5 minute steps and put up a fantastic proven figure without mentioning that the figures half an hour later didn't look too good.

I am sure your site somewhere has long term results for say 12 month periods. This is the only way to make a considered judgement on what the situation really is. Because power generation and usage is constantly changing according to season, as renewables come on line or states make stupid decisions to prematurely close power stations and then have to rely on their neighbours, we can only see where we are really going from those long term year on year consolidated figures.

Where would we be without the National Grid?

Is lekytric a technical term?...possibly why this discussion has veered from the subject of BEV s,if it ever was about them ,anyway.......As Ive said before ,when lekytric cars are on sale at $20,000 ,I will consider buying one......At present ,I could convert my Courier to lekytric with a kit ,costing about $20.000......wont be doing that......now that Ive just bought a tank of diesel......but diesel is still 50% dearer than petrol ,so its actually dearer to drive (or not drive ,currently) than a petrol model.

As requested, year on year consolidated figures for one of the world leaders in renewable deployment.

opennem.org.au/energy/sa1/

Select one year, week, then scroll down to select simplified for the statistics.

It's a good overview where demand, price and temperature are all aligned in the graphs. Heatwave either side of Christmas drives peaks as you'll see.

For the last year SA has run more than 50% renewable while also exporting double the amount imported... which is a complete reversal of history.

Plus the prices are falling. I think November & December SA had the lowest prices in the country but I haven't followed it lately.

for when I'm not driving the car of the century...
