In 1972 I went to Sydney with a family friend Vivian Lincoln it was the first time I had been anywhere really and the truck was a new Ls 1418 and since that time I always wanted to have a 1418 mercedes truck. I started an apprenticeship in 1975 at Midstar Motors Shepparton the idea was to buy a 1418 eventually but during the apprenticeship I learn't that interstate driving was a extreamly dangerous job and you are away from home most of the time. After thirty years as a mechanic I decided that I would trade truck mechanics and work with people and now work in a operating theatre as a technician.I have been collecting benz truck stuff for some years and have models and plenty of brochures and a 1418, I also sell Peterbilt merchandise here.
I like all trucks and are interested in the future of trucking.

HH Can you give me a brief account of the differences between an "ordinary" 1418
motor (OM346) and the "High Torque"version which was an MB Australia only mod.
I also am an ex Benz apprentice (Cable-Price,NZ) 1969-72.
